Thanksgiving on Shem Creek: A Lowcountry Dinner at The Mill Street Tavern

By Julia, Executive Chef

Every year somebody asks me the same question in early November: "Is anyone actually cooking Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving?" This year at The Mill Street Tavern, the answer is yes. On Thursday, November 26, from 3 to 8 PM, we're serving a three-course Lowcountry Thanksgiving dinner on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. You bring the people. We'll handle the turkey, the sides, the dishes and the dishwashing.

A holiday menu should say something about where you are. Ours is built on the food this part of South Carolina has always put on the table in the fall.

How it works

Dinner is by reservation only, 3 to 8 PM. It's a set three-course menu at $65 per adult and $20 per child, and you choose your main course at the table. Tax and gratuity are not included.

What we're cooking

You'll start with a Lowcountry first course, then choose a main. There's a classic roast turkey plate with all the Southern sides you'd expect, a glazed ham, a Lowcountry seafood and rice option, and a vegetable plate built as a full meal, not a pile of leftover sides. Kids get their own menu, and everyone finishes with a Southern dessert.

Rice gets a place at our table on purpose. Lowcountry rice cooking runs deep here, built on the knowledge of the enslaved West Africans whose skill created the region's rice culture. A rice dish belongs on a Lowcountry Thanksgiving.

Allergies and gluten-free guests

Please tell us about allergies when you book. We have a dedicated gluten-free fryer. The more we know ahead of time, the better we can take care of you.
